HP Quick Test Pro (QTP) Licensing Explained

HP Quick Test Pro (QTP) is one of the most popular automation tools being used worldwide. But installing and usage of Quick Test Pro is not that simple. HP / Mercury have different types of licenses that are in force with these clients. The below points will give you a gist about licensing and its types:

There are typically 3 types of HP / Mercury licenses:

• Seat License – This is a license on a particular machine (local). Can also be purchased by a client specifically for use by a vendor in vendor’s location though.
• Site (Local) License – a floating license which can be used locally within a site or region.
• Site (Global) License - a floating license which can be used globally.

Usually most of the customers buy a Site license to be used at that local site. Global licenses are only purchased when the company has outsourcing partners or have branches or sites across the globe. In the case of site licenses which are global, one would be able to use them from all locations including vendor premises.
